I think, music scholars and musicians are different people. Although they do the things about music, but the meaning is different.

Music scholars are devoted to research on the music of the people. Their job such as are doing research to the background of a piece, and what had happened when the composer compose the piece. They are research all about music, but they never act as a performer to the audience. Their work may be is a great help to musicians.

Musicians are devoted to performing music of the people. They can be classified by their roles in creating or performing music. Musicians want to play the best music to listeners, so they will spend a lot of time practicing. Musician are also doing research to a piece, but they are mainly play music.

Musicians and music scholars have a close relationship. They are important person to the development of music.
